Coverage of the Opening of My Singapore Food Street at SM Megamall

If you are looking for Singaporean food,  because you miss the food you savored during your last Singapore trip or you just want to experience a taste of Singapore (a medley and fusion of Chinese, Malay and Indian cuisine), don't book your flights yet. You can get authentic and delicious Singapore cuisine that you get at Singapore's hawker centers without paying travel tax by heading to My Singapore Food Street located at the 2nd floor bridge-way of SM Megamall.

Last Feb. 20, 2013, My Singapore Food Street opened officially to the public. At the opening ceremony was Vivien Tan, a fashion model, TV host, and restaurateur.

Ms. Vivien Tan

At the opening, the media and bloggers where introduced to some of the dishes of the restaurant.
Here are some of my favorites.

Nasi Goreng (Fried Rice)

Hainanese Chicken with the 3 fantastic sauces (Sweet soya, sambal/chili, ginger)

Teh Tarik, a Singaporean style preparation of coffee, was one of the highlights. They showed us how they make it.  Here is the video:

What a great tasting coffee! I love teh tarik!

After having the coffee, Vivien told us about the Milo Dinasour, another of their signature drinks. Even after having coffee, I said I have to try it. I'm glad I did, it was a blast!

Milo Dinasour (Milo Shake extraordinaire)

The great thing about this place is you can go there so many times and experience the restaurant in a different way.  You can go Chinese, Malay or Indian. Here are the items in their menu.

Next time I visit My Singapore Food Street, I would love to try the following:

Pratha Plain

Samosa
I miss these two Indian dishes!

And one of my favorite Malay/Indonesian dish, the combination of Nasi Goreng (Fried Rice) and Chicken Satay; unbeatable combination.

Nasi Goreng with Chicken Satay

Looking forward to my next visit to My Singapore Food Street!

Korean Superstar sensation Byung-hun Lee is back as Storm Shadow in G.I. JOE 2

One of the anticipated movie this Philippine summer, G.I. Joe 2. A movie that supposed to be released last 2012, is finally here this March, 2013.

Here is a press release about Korean superstar, Byung-hun Lee, who stars a Storm Shadow in the movie.

Enjoy!

PRESS RELEASE

Korean Superstar sensation Byung-hun Lee is back as Storm Shadow  in G.I. JOE 2

Korean superstar Byung-hun Lee, who reprises his role of STORM SHADOW, was excited by the possibility to explore the more internal side of the character.  “If I had just a lot of sword fights and kicks in the first movie, this time my character (Storm Shadow) is seen more up close. It has a dramatic aspect that shows his history, inner conflicts. I loved how much of my acting I could show this time around... but I still think I could have been much more competent in a Korean film.
“Frankly speaking, it’s hard. Casual speech and delivering lines in English belong to two different dimensions. Because you use a foreign language, you’ve got to be sure you could recite lines without a mistake even if someone woke you up from a nap.

“On the set, someone from the crew told me after I read my line that my pronunciation was off for one of the words. Right after my head became completely blank, busy thinking about that one line. Sometimes I felt I was back in the earliest days of my career.”
“I am really glad to be back in the role and was excited to show more of STORM SHADOW and his different sides,” says Byung-hun Lee.

Fully prepared to dive into the emotional inter-workings of the character, Lee brought a great deal of passion and physical commitment to the role and his approach. “Byung-hun came with strong ideas on who this character is and he spills it all on the screen,” says Chu.

“Byung-hun has an amazing presence,” says producer di Bonaventura.  “He’s doing all these fights himself, but also has an internal strength of character that gives STORM SHADOW great dignity.”
Also an incredibly powerful martial artist and athlete in his own right, Lee did extensive training to reprise the role and was excited to approach the action sequences from a more practical standpoint.  “Jon said that he wanted the movie to be more real, so I trained a lot to make my body bigger and more cut.”

“Because we had actors who could really fight, I wanted to show the brutality of their fights and steer away from the uptight ninjas we’ve all seen before,” recalls Chu.  “When STORM SHADOW gets hit in the face, I wanted to see the blood seeping through his white mask.”
A new component of the martial arts sequences that is sure to excite audiences is the introduction to the use of sais, the deadly sharp-bladed weapons often seen in the G.I. JOE comics.  “I was excited about using the sais as an extension of their punches, like brutal brass knuckles with an extremely sharp edge,” says Chu.  “We put them in close quarters where audiences can really experience just how dangerous this is.”

Showing across the Philippines March 2013. “G.I. Joe 2 : Retaliation” is released and distributed

Photo Essay: Write down what you feel for your loved one

After work, I went to SM City North EDSA to spend some time to do some street photography.  While walking along the Sky Garden just next to the Sky Dome, I noticed a wall where you can stick some notes to express your message to your love one. It was called Ville De L'Amour, or in English, City of Love.

I decided to stay a while and photograph some of the activities of the people visiting the wall.

Here is a selection of the photos I liked to share with you.  Enjoy!

Movie Review of Flight starring Denzel Washington

Solar Entertainment Corporation invited me to the advance screening of the movie Flight.

From the Director Robert Zemeckis who directed Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and Back to the Future, and Forrest Gump to name a few, comes a drama movie about an airline pilot Whip Whitaker who amazingly save all his passengers from an airplane crash by his piloting skills but later was accused of taking alcohol before the same flight.

The movie stars two timed Oscar award winner Denzel Washington who was nominated as Best Actor for his role in this movie.

Movie Trailer

An airline pilot saves a flight from crashing, but an investigation into the malfunctions reveals something troubling.- IMDB

Movie Review

The movie starts with a nudity scene, a first from Director Robert Zemecki. Then, shortly the movie increased it's paced when the airplane takes off the ground.  After the excitement of landing the plane scene, starts the drama.

The drama was very acceptable not too dragging. It mainly deals with Denzel Washinton's character's alcohol dependence problem.  The inner struggle to overcome and change and to deal with the investigation whether he is responsible for the crash or not, makes the continuity of the story.

The best part is the ending which made this movie really worth the time to see.
No spoilers from me :)

I rate the movie 3.5 / 5 for the average viewer but if you are into drama I give it a 4.
Definitely worth the time.

Fan Reactions

The movie will be showing nationwide starting Feb. 13, 2013.

Coverage of "Mama" Premiere and Movie Review

Front and Back of the Premiere Ticket

I was at the premiere screening of the Horror/Mystery movie "Mama" to cover the event as the event's photographer and as a blogger last Feb 4, 2013.

The Academy Award-nominee Guillermo Del Toro, who brought us the movie "Pan's Labyrinth"  presents Mama, a supernatural horror / thriller that tells the haunting tale of two little girls who disappeared into the woods the day their parents were killed.  When the two girls were rescued 5 years later and begin a new life, the suspenseful tale started that will make you jump off your seat!

Movie Trailer

IMBD Page

The mysterious story line of the film keeps the audience in anticipation, and then .....
BOOM! Some people scream and then the laughing afterwards of trying to neutralize the scare that they had!

I enjoyed the movie and it's highly recommended for the horror movie genre.

I rate it 4 of 5 for it made me jumped off my seat!

Zero Dark Thirty Best Actress Jessica Chastain saves children in Guillermo Del Toro ‘Mama’

PRESS RELEASE

Zero Dark Thirty Best Actress Jessica Chastain saves children in Guillermo Del Toro ‘Mama’

Academy Award®-nominee Guillermo Del Toro presents Mama, a supernatural thriller that tells the haunting tale of two little girls who disappeared into the woods the day their parents were killed.  When they are rescued years later and begin a new life, they find that someone or something wants to come tuck them in at night.

As Annabel played by Academy Award-nominee and Golden Globe Winner Jessica Chastain tries to introduce the children to a normal life, she grows convinced of an evil presence in their house.  Are the sisters experiencing traumatic stress, or is a ghost coming to visit them?  How did the broken girls survive those years all alone?  As she answers these disturbing questions, the new mother will find that the whispers she hears at bedtime are coming from the lips of a deadly presence.

When selecting the actors to portray the key roles in Mama, it was crucial to find the correct performers, regardless of their star power at the time.  The key parts that the filmmakers needed to fill were those of the new family cobbled together after Victoria (Megan Charpentier) and Lilly (Isabelle Nelisse) are found in the woods and returned to civilization.  Their unlikely saviors are their Uncle Lucas (NikolajCoster-Waldau) and his wild-child girlfriend, Annabel, who is admittedly unprepared for motherhood.
The free-spirited Annabel supported her boyfriend during the years that he spent searching for his missing nieces.  After they are found, the bass drummer initially resists getting involved with the girls’ caretaking, but ultimately she finds solidarity with them.

When casting for the part began, actress Jessica Chastain had already worked with filmmakers including Terrence Malick, John Madden and Al Pacino, but few of her movies had been released and she was still relatively unknown.  That would all change during 2011, the year her career launched into the stratosphere.
Del Toro gives his production executive, Russell  Ackerman, credit for bringing Chastain to his attention.

Needless to say, the executive producer was blown away with her work.  As timing met opportunity, the buzz about Chastain began to build as her slew of 2011 releases—including The Help, in which she gave an Oscar®-nominated performance—introduced her to audiences worldwide.  Del Toro commends: “Our biggest victory in Mama was casting Jessica Chastain.  She has the unique ability of showing great strength and great vulnerability at the same time, and the intangible gift of instantly making you care about her.”

The director also praises the production’s Annabel: “Jessica is a beautiful human being and an amazingly talented actress.  I will be forever grateful for how she dug inside herself to give a dimension of life and sorrow to Annabel that I never dreamed of.  There were intense moments where she made huge emotional investments that you feel on screen.  We were very lucky to have her.”

Chastain admits that she looks for projects that challenge her comfort zone, and when she read Mama, she was immediately hooked.  She reflects: “I’m a huge fan of horror films, and Mama is terrifying and unlike anything I’ve ever done before.”  She also responded to her character’s deep arc.  “I love the way Annabel goes from being a reluctant guardian to the girls, to the place where she’d rather die than let harm happen to them.”

The performer appreciated that Muschiettis weren’t aiming for cheap scares with their feature debut.  Rather, she knew they were constructing a thriller that is as much psychological as supernatural.  Explains Chastain: “Mama tries to kill Annabel because Annabel is the rival to the affections of the girls.  Mama is perfectly fine with the girls being in Annabel and Lucas’ house, as long as they love Mama best.  But once the girls discover that Annabel is warm, they see there is something they can get from Annabel that they could never get from Mama.  You start to see their alliances shift, and that’s what causes all hell to break loose in the house.”

With the collaboration of wardrobe, hair and makeup departments, director Andy Muschietti worked with Chastain to create Annabel’s signature look: a reluctant hero and raven-haired 30-year-old teenager.  Del Toro admits he was the most surprised when he first saw the character come to life.  He laughs: “The look of Annabel was very surprising to me—tattoos, black hair—I would have gone a completely different route.  But when I saw her, I understood who she was instantly.”

Jessica Chastain  has emerged as one of Hollywood’s most sought-after actors of her generation.
Following a whirlwind 2011, in which she received several nominations and accolades for her work from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, BAFTA, the Broadcast Film Critics Association, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the Screen Actors Guild and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, she has had an equally impressive 2012.

Chastain was last seen in The Weinstein Company’s Lawless, opposite Shia LaBeouf and Tom Hardy, also lent her voice to DreamWorks Animation’s Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted as the character of Gia the Jaguar.  The film opened to huge numbers and outstanding reviews. She currently stars in Zero Dark Thirty, Kathryn Bigelow’s much anticipated follow-up to The Hurt Locker. The film received numerous accolades this year , including Chastain’s Oscar® Nomination for Best Actress and winner for the Golden Globe Best Actress in Drama. Chastain is best known for the role of Celia Foote, an insecure Southern lady constantly trying to fit in with the high-society women who reject her, in DreamWorks’ Academy Award®-nominated adaptation of the best-selling Kathryn Stockett novel “The Help.”

Guillermo Del Toro ‘Mama’ s released and distributed by United International Pictures through Solar Entertainment Corp. Showing on February 6. Nationwide!!

Movie "Flight" Gives Denzel Washington Double Best Actor Nominations

PRESS RELEASE

Flight :  Gives Denzel Washington Double Best Actor Nominations

Whip Whitaker (Denzel Washington) wakes before it's time to take off on a new flight, after an evening of drinking and sex with one of his plane's stewardesses, Katerina Marquez (Nadine Velazquez). Still trying to rouse himself from his hangover, his phone rings, and he answers a call from his ex-wife Deana (Garcelle Beauvais). Deana wants to discuss putting their son through a private school, but Whip doesn't want to discuss it at the moment, claiming he'll talk to her about it when he gets back to Atlanta.

While Katerina quickly heads off to the airport to prepare, Whip is unable to collect himself until he snorts a line of cocaine. This wakes him up, and he is next headed to the airport, where rain pounds the building and the airplanes. Whip does a quick inspection of the airplane, then enters into the airplane, speaking with a flight attendant named Margaret (Tamara Tunie), and meeting his co-pilot Ken Evans (Brian Geraghty).

Ken seems a little apprehensive of Whip (who is wearing sunglasses), but goes along with his story that he's alright to fly. The plane takes off through rain, and Whip pushes it higher and faster, attempting to find a break in the clouds, causing the ride to seem downright turbulent. However, once Whip finds a break in the storm, the plane stabilizes, and the passengers applaud.

Shortly after this, Whip addresses the passengers personally, while secretly pouring some mini-vodka bottles into a bottle of orange juice. After disposing of the bottles, Whip returns to the cockpit, and naps while Ken takes over.

A sudden jolt stirs Whip, before the plane suddenly pitches into an uncontrolled dive. Steering mechanisms don't respond, and numerous houses can be seen out the window. Staying relatively calm, Whip has the plane's fuel ditched, before proposing a crazy maneuver: roll the airplane! With Ken and Margaret's help, Whip inverts the plane upside down, leveling it out, before rolling it to crash-land on its belly in a field near a small church. The impact slams Whip's head against the steering mechanism, knocking him out.

Whip awakens in an Atlanta hospital with minor injuries. He is greeted by his old friend Charlie Anderson (Bruce Greenwood), who now represents the airline's pilots union. He tells Whip his heroism saved 96 of 102 people on board. An NTSB official informs him Katerina was among those killed, and that Evans has been put into a coma.

When he meets Charlie and attorney Hugh Lang (Don Cheadle), they explain that the NTSB performed a toxicology screen while he was unconscious in the hospital that revealed he was intoxicated, which could result in Whip going to prison on both drug and manslaughter charges. Lang promises to get the toxicology report ruled inadmissible on technical grounds, but Whip leaves in a fury and takes refuge in his father’s farm.

Watch how this action-drama unfolds and climaxes on a down-to-earth airline pilot hailed nationwide in America as a hero for saving the lives of almost everyone on his flight under the able  ‘navigation’ of Director Robert Zemeckis of Back to the Future, Who Framed Roger Rabbit and other great film credits’ fame.

Director Robert Zemeckis returns to pure live-action filmmaking with Flight, which also marks the first non-action/thriller to star two-time Oscar-winner Denzel Washington since he directed himself in the 2007
inspirational true-story drama The Great Debaters. As much excitement as there is among cinephiles to see both the director and actor getting back to their roots, so to speak.

Flight is a 2012 American drama film directed and co-produced by Robert Zemeckis starring Denzel Washington, with Don Cheadle, Melissa Leo, Bruce Greenwood, Kelly Reilly, and John Goodman. The film is distributed by United International Pictures thru Solar Entertainment Corporation.  Coming soon this February at your favorite theaters and cinemas.
